Humana, Yum!, Kindred make Fortune 500

Louisville-based companies Humana Inc., Yum! Brands Inc. and Kindred Healthcare Inc. have been named to Fortune Magazine’s annual Fortune 500 list.


Health insurance provider Humana appears at No. 73 on the list, with revenue of $30 billion. Yum!, parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and A&W Restaurants, is ranked No. 216, with revenue of $10.9 billion. Hospital operator Kindred is ranked No. 477, with revenue of $4.3 billion.

Covington, Ky.-based chemical and plastics company Ashland Inc. is ranked No. 280, with revenue of $8.1 billion. Another Covington-based company, pharmacy-services provider Omnicare Inc., is ranked No. 347, with $6.2 billion. Highland Heights, Ky.-based wire and cable producer General Cable Corp. is ranked No. 469, with revenue of $4.4 billion.

Indianapolis-based insurer WellPoint Inc. was ranked No. 31, with revenue of $65 billion. Other Indiana companies on the list were: Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly & Co. at No. 112, with revenue of $21.8 billion; Columbus-based engine maker Cummins Inc. at 218, with revenue of $10.8 billion; Merrillville-based utility company NiSource Inc. at 336, with revenue of $6.7 billion and Carmel-based insurer Conseco Inc. at No. 475, with revenue of $4.3 billion.

Walmart Stores Inc. led this year’s Fortune 500 list, with revenue of $408 billion. It was followed by Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., General Electric Co., Bank of America Corp., Conoco Phillips, AT&T Inc., Ford Motor Co., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Hewlett-Packard Co.
